Hiba Al-Hussein

 

Amid all the chaos and turbulence of the various crises in Syria and Lebanon, we were excited to meet Hiba Al-Hussein, the 17 years old Syrian refugee who escaped with her parents and siblings from the war in Syria to settle in Lebanon challenging all circumstances,

The young lady is vibrant, lively and has extremely positive attitude towards life.

Here she sits, in her tiny apartment on the head of a broken wooden table drawing out her dreams on scraps of paper.

Intrigued by her artistic ability to design and draw her own cartoon characters and beautiful outfit sketches, we hereby disclose further facts about her.

 

• What does art mean to you?

At first, I wasn’t thinking about art itself, all I wanted to do was to fill my free time and express my inner self on papers through drawings.  However, when my parents and neighbors saw my works they recognized that I can do art and that I am talented.

Now that I understand what I’m doing, I can say that:

Art is a pleasure and a way of expression.

 

• What inspires you? 

The famous cartoon characters fascinate me.  I’ve draw most of them.  But, I found that I am better when I draw characters I create myself.

Elie Saab’s designs mesmerize me, I often follow his fashion shows on TV and media as for Tony Ward’s outfits, I often spend time staring at his showroom vitrine which is a stone throw away distance from where I live.

 

• How do you describe your cartoon drawings and outfit sketches?  

I often get glimpses of cartoon and outfit sketches in my head, so spontaneously, I pick up my pens and papers and start to draw.

Each drawing I make tells a tale that I illustrate through details.

Also, keep drawing makes me day by day a better artist.

 

• Tell us where you see yourself in the future?

Actually, I wish to be recognized as a cartoon and outfit designer. because I can harvest designs profusely.  My ideas are endless

 

• What motto do you live by?
