Contemporary Scenographies in the Middle East and North Africa

Beirut (Lebanon), 17 Dec. (Actor Academy).-  Professor Talal Darjani, Director and Scientific Reference for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region at the «LIRIS» Laboratory, Sorbonne Nouvelle University – Paris, in collaboration with the «LIRIS» administration, will organize and oversee the Study Day scheduled for December 20, 2024. This event is part of the Laboratory’s Second International Conference and it will feature an esteemed group of artists and researchers from the region, along with prominent global professors specializing in theater and scenography.

Professor Darjani has curated a diverse lineup of participants, ensuring a range of ages, perspectives, works, ideas, and proposals, all united by a commitment to artistic and scientific excellence and a culture of humanity. The aim is to foster development in the MENA region, enabling it to compete globally. This platform provides an opportunity to showcase Arab and Middle Eastern works, engage in cross-cultural dialogue, and exchange ideas while drawing from international expertise. The conference’s ultimate goal is to establish a theatrical and cultural bridge that promotes creative thought and collaboration between the MENA region and the global community.

During this international conference, Professor Talal Darjani will unveil his latest directorial innovation and academic discovery in scenography, framed from the perspective of a director, scenographer, and dramaturg. His work integrates the methodologies of Stanislavsky and Meyerhold into a single theatrical performance. This groundbreaking approach titled «The Dramatic Character of Scenography,» will be demonstrated through applied works reflecting his unique vision.

Additionally, Dr. Maria Christie Bakhos, a member of the Laboratory’s Scientific Committee and Assistant Scientific reference and director for the MENA region, will present an analytical study of the scenography in the play «May Ziadah: Nights of the Cuckoo’s Nest.» In this production, she plays the lead role of «May Ziadah.» The play, adapted from the novel «May Ziadah: Nights of Isis Copia» by Wasini Al-Araj, was directed and scenographed by Professor Talal Darjani.

Escenografías contemporáneas en Oriente Medio y el Norte de África

Beirut (Líbano), 17 de diciembre (Actor Academy).- El profesor Talal Darjani, director y referente científico para la región de Oriente Medio y el Norte de África (MENA) en el Laboratorio «LIRIS» de la Universidad Sorbonne Nouvelle – París, en colaboración con la administración de «LIRIS», organizará y supervisará la Jornada de estudio prevista para el 20 de diciembre de 2024. Este evento forma parte de la Segunda Conferencia Internacional del Laboratorio y contará con la presencia de un prestigioso grupo de artistas e investigadores de la región, junto con destacados profesores mundiales especializados en teatro y escenografía.

El profesor Darjani ha seleccionado una lista diversa de participantes, asegurando una gama de edades, perspectivas, obras, ideas y propuestas, todas unidas por un compromiso con la excelencia artística y científica y una cultura de humanidad. El objetivo es fomentar el desarrollo en la región MENA, permitiéndole competir a nivel mundial. Esta plataforma ofrece la oportunidad de mostrar obras árabes y de Oriente Medio, entablar un diálogo intercultural e intercambiar ideas aprovechando la experiencia internacional. El objetivo final de la conferencia es establecer un puente teatral y cultural que promueva el pensamiento creativo y la colaboración entre la región MENA y la comunidad global.

Durante esta conferencia internacional, el profesor Talal Darjani dará a conocer su última innovación como director y descubrimiento académico en escenografía, enmarcada desde la perspectiva de un director, escenógrafo y dramaturgo. Su trabajo integra las metodologías de Stanislavsky y Meyerhold en una única representación teatral. Este enfoque innovador titulado «El carácter dramático de la escenografía», se demostrará a través de obras aplicadas que reflejan su visión única.

Además, la Dra. Maria Christie Bakhos, miembro del Comité Científico del Laboratorio y directora y referencia científica adjunta para la región MENA, presentará un estudio analítico de la escenografía en la obra «May Ziadah: Nights of the Cuckoo’s Nest». En esta producción, interpreta el papel principal de «May Ziadah». La obra, adaptada de la novela «May Ziadah: Nights of Isis Copia» de Wasini Al-Araj, fue dirigida y escenografiada por el profesor Talal Darjani.
