Mrs. Hyam H. Tohme- Lebanon

Diafanís magazine had the opportunity to talk with one of the founder of  NabihTohme Foundation, Mrs. Hyam Hobeiche Tohme from Lebanon.

The main topics of the conversation were the activities and the objetives of this Lebanese non-profit organization.

 

• Who founded Tohme Foundation and when?

Tohme Foundation is a non-profit charity foundation based in Beirut, Lebanon. It was founded on December 21st 2018, by Dr. Nabih Tohme and his wife Mrs. Hyam H. Tohme.

 

• What are the objectives and mission of the Foundation?

The foundation’s objectives are social, health, cultural, developmental and environmental aspects.

Among their aims are:

– Strengthen collaboration and solidarity among all citizens by looking after their social, educational, health, agricultural and environmental needs and aspirations; in addition to contributing to the organization of educational and touristic festivals, as well as the implementation of different types of projects.

-Combating analphabetism and teaching languages and helping people become computer literate.

–  Awareness-raising seminars and campaigns for members of the civil society on the subject of children’s rights and child labor, as well as provision of scholarships to enable children continue their studies and raise their scientific and cultural standards.

– Providing assistance to every person in need of medical support, raising awareness campaigns on the dangers of narcotic substances abuse in addition to many other objectives.

Tohme Foundation thrives to ensure that all Lebanese who seek out our help are given an equal chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty.

 

• How do you carry out your activities?

Our activities are carried out by enthusiast humanitarian professionals working full time, and dedicated volunteers from different backgrounds, ages and communities.

 

• Being a Lebanese Foundation, are your activities covering other countries than Lebanon?

Our scope, projects and activities are only focused and implemented in Lebanon. Tohme Foundation is a Lebanese non-profit organization that works to support the Lebanese society and other communities living in Lebanon.

 

• On which projects are you working currently?

Currently, we are implementing the following projects; St. Rita, COVID-19 relief program, Dbayeh Community Support and Churches.

 

• Given the health emergency that Lebanon is going through, what are the social issues that require the most attention from the Foundation?

During these unprecedented times, Tohme Foundation is focusing the most on supporting the Lebanese society and Syrian refugees, with different relief activities; working as much as possible to minimize the number of cases and to control the pandemic in Lebanon.

 

• Are you working on any new projects?

Yes, while our projects for the near future will keep on focusing on fighting COVID-19 and preventing its outbreak, we are working on keep supporting the local communities in all aspects, and planning new pragmas to support Syrian refugees.
